Working Meditation & Beyond
Based in traditional In-Sight (mindfulness) and Zen meditation, this course provides the fundamentals of sitting practice and techniques for addressing internal narratives arising from current, historic and workplace experiences, including anxieties resulting from excessive workloads or other factors. By providing space in the thought processes, these recognitions help to transform an otherwise rote or reactive response into a more well thought out nuanced response, with increased probability of eliciting a desired effect.
The techniques learned in this course, (sitting-practice, breath-focus, sitting-form and concentration) support the exploration of the self in relation to one’s surroundings. Use of these techniques lead to more introspection and additional self-awareness, which provide clearer focus and a more solid substrate for confidence and contentment. In addition, using these techniques, students can learn to approach work as a practice, thereby reducing work and stress-related cognitive distortions. Each section will include lecture and actual sitting practice followed by a question and answer period facilitated by an anonymous online forum and email.
