A Short History of US Private Direct Medicine
Tracking Compliant Cash Healthcare Innovation
Private direct medicine in the United States goes by many names: concierge medicine, direct primary care/DPC, boutique/retainer/membership medicine, cash medicine, and Functional Medicine/integrative practice. And there are many innovative versions of private medicine that lack any such name reference: OneMedical, Forward, Parsley, MDVIP, Cypress/SignatureMD, and SpecialDocs. Private direct medical practices can represent a single healthcare professional’s quest to deliver innovative care. Private direct medicine models are also adopted by large provider systems like Atrium or the University of Miami Healthcare System. So, what is private direct medicine and why does it matter?
